Open your mind

I have been reading almost every new erotica book to hit the Amazon shelves for the past 5 years now, and I thought this was a little different take on the norm! If you never liked 50 shades, you probably won’t like Grey - but everything’s worth reading once, so give it a try. Keep in mind this is retelling 50 shades, just a different perspective!

If you’re not in the mood for Grey, there are the novelette options like Dark Petals by Deidre St Luke the up and coming writer.

Lastly, I have read some of the reviews posted and while I am not bashing anyone's opinion I would simply like to point out some facts.
1. This is a retelling of the original story but from Christians POV--therefore how can the author make it be different or original
2. Whereas I did find Christian to be immature and childish in his actions and thoughts those of us who read the original series new this already. His growth didn't come around until after the second book started. Even Dr. Flynn tells Ana that in a lot of ways emotionally Christian is still a child so this is not news.
3. I do believe this book helped to better understand Christian I am not altogether certain it was necessary as the series was already a huge success but just as I am sure with other readers the times I really wanted to know what he was thinking came in book two and three.
For instance when he and Ana marreid, what was on his mind as he and Ros made their way home after Charlie Tango crashed, and I really want into his head the night he confronted Elena at his mother's home.
4. As far as the movie I watched it and believed it to have been as true to the book as was possible for a decent rating. Although I honestly believe that there is NO ONE that could have been picked to play the part of Christian that would have been accepted by all the fans of this series. Each woman as we read FSOG had a mental picture of Christian and everyone's picture would have varied in some way.
Anyway I hope to hear more from Christians POV IN THE FUTURE

50 Yawns of Grey

I apologize, faithful readers. I am one of the hordes of people who clamored for Christian's version of his romance with Anastasia Steele. I begged for it, in fact. I thought his perspective, included at the end of Fifty Shades Freed, was far more captivating than anything Ana had to say.

So when I found out that E.L. James, who clearly recognizes an opportunity when she sees one, was publishing Christian's POV, I was as giddy as a thirteen-year-old at a One Direction concert.

Giddier, even.

And then - AND THEN - I read the book.

The thing about the Fifty Shades juggernaut is that the books, while ridiculously written and unintentionally hilarious, were fun. They were addicting in the worst possible way, and I could not put them down.

Literary crack: you know they're bad for you, but you don't care.

The movie version was better than I thought it would be. Dakota Johnson! I know, right? Who knew? Together with director Sam Taylor Johnson, she gave Ana a much-needed personality injection, emphasizing the virtually nonexistent friskiness of the book. (Jamie Dornan - well, he's gorgeous, and he kind of looks like the Christian I pictured. Here's hoping he loosens up a little in the next one.)

Lately, though, it appears as if E.L. James has started taking herself a wee tad too seriously. First she makes Sam Taylor Johnson so miserable that Johnson backs out from directing the sequel. Then James decides she will commandeer the script and write it herself. I'm waiting for the announcement that she's going to direct, too.

This brings me to Grey, which is just all around a regrettable book.

Here is why I was excited about this one: we get Christian's voice. Let's be honest here for a minute. Do you remember Ana from the books, or do you remember Christian? Which character intrigued you more? CHRISTIAN DID. Ana is about as interesting as a speed bump, but Christian? Christian is glorious. He's complex. He's fascinating. He's utterly compelling. When James tossed out that teaser at the end of Freed, it made me sit up straight and squeeze my thighs together in anticipation.

So much potential.

I won't even address the writing, other than to point out that you will be relieved to know that there are no goddesses or half-moon-glasses-wearing subconsciouses, THANK THE SWEET GHOST OF TWILIGHT. Gone, too, are the apexes of Ana's thighs and the junctures of her thighs, although those have been sadly replaced by Christian's rather clinical usage of "labia." Remaining are the smirking, the eye-rolling, the lip biting, and the sighing.

You just can't keep an eye-rolling, smirking Dom down, I suppose.

Okay, I have to mention such soul-stirring lines as these:

"She's oil on my troubled, deep, dark waters."

"I'm going to make you come like a freight train, baby."

Just ... I mean ... what woman doesn't want to hear THAT?

What I wanted from this book was something new. At the very least, I wanted something FUN. Like the first three. I wanted to revel in the bad writing - biting my lips, smirking, sighing and rolling my eyes right along with Christian and Ana. How about an insight into Christian? Or a different interpretation of the same event, a stimulus to renew my interest in the Copper-Haired Boy Wonder.

What I got was the same damn thing, all over again.

Rinse and repeat.

Yeah, James throws me a few new nuggets. I now know where those Tess of the d'Urbervilles books came from, and I know a lot more about Christian's professional wheeling and dealing than I ever cared to know. There are way too many dreams about his tortured childhood. I kind of got the point after the first two or three, E.L., but thanks for repeating them OVER AND OVER AND OVER again.

There is one scene toward the end - the one in which Ana asks to be punished - that was what I'd call somewhat revelatory. Seeing it through Christian's eyes was pretty darn awesome and far more interesting than any scene that came before it. In fact, that scene triggers James's only true creativity in this book, as we get to see what happens to Christian after Ana walks out on him.

So basically a chapter's worth of interesting reading.

Here's what I realized while reading Grey: Christian's perspective should have been included in the original three books, perhaps in alternating chapters. M. Pierce did this with tremendous potency in the Night Owl trilogy, and it would have served this series well if James had incorporated Christian's POV. I also realized that Christian, for however much this book bored me, remains one of the more commanding (no pun intended) characters I've encountered in fiction. There is something about that man that makes me want more of him.

Now let's talk about the hot headboard rocking. It's delicious. I liked getting in Christian's head as he decided which of his toys to implement, and I liked knowing the sensations he experienced with Ana. There are no new sexual escapades to read about, and those of you who enjoyed The Tampon Scene will be thrilled to know that it makes an appearance.

What you learn from reading Grey is that this is Christian's story to tell. Not Ana's. Yeah, it's supposed to be her Journey of Discovery or whatever, but she's so uninspiring and dull that you don't care. Christian learns more about himself than Ana will ever know about herself, and his changes are far more profound.

Is this the last we will see of Christian Grey in print? I kind of hope so, even as I feel some reluctance at saying goodbye to him. But it's time. Unless E.L. James can give us something new, we need to give Christian a hearty Flogger Salute and send him into the publishing ether.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!! Normally, these types of books aren't something I would read, but I picked up the first 50 Shades after hearing all the reviews and couldn't put it down! Same with the second and 3rd books. Then, when on vacation and stuck in the airport, I was scrolling through my kindle store and saw this! I immediately purchased it to read on the plane and couldn't believe how much I was missing from the first series! To read through Christian's thoughts and how he was feeling and seeing things was truly an eye opener and really helped to appreciate the 50 Shades series even more! I highly recommend this book to everyone who has read 50 Shades of Grey!!

Phoenix Volume 1 by DB Canavan is an enchanting, intricately detailed read that clearly describes each scene allowing the reader to form a well-defined mental image in their mind through the use of sensory related word choices. The storyline elements are well established and the author has created characters that will entice the reader. Despite some minor formatting issues this story still holds the readers attention and provides an excellent storyline from start to finish. Phoenix was my first read by this author and definitely won't be my last. I absolutely loved the story line and it pulled me in right away. I needed to know what was going to happen next! I loved the characters, and just the whole thing! I can't wait to read the second book!!

I just love the story line and the combination of romance in it. One of the things I like about this author is that she really get you inside the characters. The sexual parts in " all her books " that I've read from her are very H O T!
can not wait for the second book to come out. Way to go Ms. Canavan!

Sexy and Sweet! What's not to love?

The Grey Knight shows his soft and sweet side with this collection. By far he is the best writer of erotica I've found. At some point you always get bored with a writer, not so with this guy. He actually cares about women and your feelings and it comes through in his writing as if he was talking directly to you. One of the most sensitive and thoughtful writers, he brings the sexy to the party! If you haven't encountered him before you should definitely start here. I've been hooked ever since I found his work, I'm sure you will too! I highly reccomend him and if your looking for more info on him check out his tumblr.

I found all of the story's elements believable and engaging making me wish I was a late comer to Ms. Hammell's blistering romantic series and having a couple of books following this one to feed my hunger until the next novel. Unfortunately, I will have to wait along with everyone else for the erotic, paranormal sequel.

Ms. Hammell's key characters transports the reader on a powerful mind-trip that leaves you craving for more. Illusions (In the Arms of the Law #1) is an addictive erotic paranormal romance with tasty morsels of intrigue.

This book was great! I liked it right from the start. I read it in one sitting. It is fast paced and suspenseful. There was some unanswered questions about certain events and characters in the book, and the ending was left open for book 2. I also hope there is some sort of prequel or at least some flashbacks in book 2 that answer some of the questions. The sex scenes were the most detailed thing in the book. I wish everything was more detailed and the character had more depth, but liked the story nonetheless. The book has a paranormal element that is pretty important to the book (one of the main characters is clairvoyant and helps solve cases), but it's not very well elaborated either.
VERDICT:

All in all it was a good book, and I recommend to any romance novel lover.

A Good Read

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I liked it!The first chapter was bit choppy as we got the back story interwoven into the dialogue. I had no idea what was being said or what the point of that first conversation was because we were bouncing around all over the place.

However, once we got past that first chapter and onto the rest of the book, it was GOOD!! There was non-stop action. It was great for my 5 minute breaks. There was real meat (plot/character growth) in each chapter. There were several scenes that just went by too fast, though. The book felt a bit rushed, or as though there was a tight word limit. The sex scenes were great! *grin* They were FABulous!

This was a GOOD read!

The author has a wonderful way of writing

I was a little confused at the beginning as to where this story was leading, but as I continued, I realized that the story was not about Kate's current escapades so much, as it is about how she got there. We follow her thoughts and feelings as she reminisces about her time with Ken, how they came together and the passion they shared. The author has a wonderful way of writing, allowing us to follow the story with not only our eyes, but our feelings also. The book is very explicit, but all in a good way. My only complaint would be that it was too short. I'm not a huge fan of this type of serials, as we are too often, left hanging in the lurch for too long before we are able to continue. This is definitely the case with this book, as we never got back to her current beau, and I would really have liked to have had more of Marcus. Other than that, I is definitely a great read.

Just When You Thought It Was Safe...

"Why I Hate the Merchants" is my second favorite of her stories. It is very real, and leaves you with the sense that you could know these people. It almost has the feeling of a movie, right up to the final scene. I absolutely suggest reading this immediately.

Their sizzle nearly leaped off each page!

My Review:

Okay, I will admit it. While I liked the subject matter and enjoyed the blurb, the main reason I was excited to read Bound With Pearls was because of the cover. I loved the red hair, the pearls and the whole look with the whip and the restraint. It was all in such contrast to what you usually think of with pearls and I was intrigued.

The Good: Some of the best things in the book were the characters. I really could relate to and enjoy Christine and oh how I loved Daniel! They had depth and back-story and were realistic, believable characters with talents, skills and flaws. Their relationship began for all the wrong reasons but was based on mutual trust and chemistry. Their sizzle nearly leaped off each page, keeping me constantly interested in knowing my famous 'What Happened Next?' And the ending? It did not leave me hanging as can often be the case in erotic books. It did not wrap up the whole story and tie it with a bow in two seconds flat. It answered questions and yet made me want more. It was really quite well written.

The Bad: The only real negative was the way the situation was left with Christine's bratty little sister Lucy. I really would have liked to see her get her comeuppance and have Christine be somewhat more vindicated than she was. Of course, that can certainly be cleared up in the next(?) book. ;)

The Snuggly: This book reminded me of another BDSM series that I thoroughly enjoy. The time spent at the Club and the beginning of the relationship could have gone very, very badly. However, there was so much immediate chemistry between Chris and Daniel that I was thrilled that it did not. Their play scenes were not demeaning or humiliating. Instead they were hot and very sensual. Their interaction outside of the club was that of two adults trying to find their way through the maze we call life and relationships. When they were together, it was tender and moving. Other times it was steamy and extremely erotic. I had a smile on my face a mile wide while I read it. As you can tell, this is an adults-only book.

The Rest: Maybe I was just in the mood for a really steamy, really romantic book but I absolutely loved Bound With Pearls. I was a little sad when I finished it because I was enjoying it so much. I will say again, this is an adult book with adult themes, not for the under 18 set. But if you love a hot romance and enjoy some erotica and BDSM too, then absolutely, positively plan on reading Bound With Pearls.

good start to a new series

Bound by Pearls in book 1 in the Atlanta BDSM Series by Sidney Bristol. We are introduced to several of the characters that are in the BDSM scene in Atlanta including Chris who is always playing mom to her younger sister Lucy and cleaning up her messes, we also meet Daniel who is involved in Lucy's latest mess. Lucy having been lost for a night by her Dom in a poker game calls her sister Chris and talks her into taking her place. Daniel tried to lose the poker game because he really didn't want Lucy for a night he is pleasantly surprised when Chris is her replacement.

This one night won in a poker game is the start to a hot and extremely sexy love affair between Chris and Daniel. Both have past relationship issues as well as the family boundaries issues that Chris has with her sister. While they struggle to define what they want from each other and test each other there is no doubt about the fiery chemistry between them. Daniel is a creative Dom and we are treated to several different but extremely arousing "scenes" played out between them. (I will never buy ginger for Chinese food again without thinking of this book).

With this being the first in the series we have some development of secondary characters, not nearly as much as I would have liked to see however we are introduced to some of Daniels friends and I have to assume they will be getting starring roles in future books. At times things we thrown at you as if you had a back story to place them in context however the explanations came later and that was just a bit bothersome.

Overall this is a very hot read with the promise of more to come in the series and a HEA for Daniel and Chris.

What a HOT, SMEXY SMEXY, WILD read! (*Fanning Myself*)

So before I begin this review I have a secret to reveal! I LOVE me a hot smut filled book. However if you add great characters and a great story then I LOVE LOVE LOVE me a hot smut filled book. This was a LOVE LOVE LOVE! LOL

Bound by Peals written by Sidney Bristol is all about the formation of a dom/sub relationship and the many (did I mention MANY) emotions that are explored during this formation.

This book is not for the easily offended. There are extreme sexual scenarios that are played out and extreme language used. This is a dirty, gritty and sexy book that exploits many common and not so common (pass the ginger ...lol) sides of the dom/sub relationship.

Now that I have armed you a little .. let me "de-arm" you! This story for a BDSM book was FUN and much less intense than many books in the BDSM genre that I have read! While some scenes were intense, there was so much blooming within the forming relationship that it didn't feel "heavy"! Don't get me wrong, all emotions were felt but I never went to a dark ugly place. Not sure if that makes sense but it's the best way I can explain it! LOL

So our submissive's name is Christine. Christine is an unattached submissive that had adopted the lifestyle many years ago and was well trained by a previous dom. After being begged by her horrible, spoiled brat bitchy sister Lucy, to please fill in as a sub (bitchy sister's dom lost a poker game and bet the use of his sub to another dom ... DUDE REALLY???) on her behalf, Christine agrees to spend one night with the winning poker game dom named Daniel.

Seeing as neither Christine nor Daniel know each other (either by rep or by looks) this makes for a very uncomfortable situation and both are NOT looking forward to this "play session"! Well aren't they pleasantly surprised when they are clearly not only attracted to each other but they also "fit" together. I had to chuckle when Christine suddenly wanted to take back many of her "limits" and go all the way. I also melted a little when Daniel said NO and refused to take advantage because the .. er... um .... did it just got really hot in here!? LOL

From this one night, these two decide to see each other again and again, and trust builds between them (that's pretty great considering a dom/sun relationship REQUIRES that)! Tenderness like you can never imagine, and serious boundaries are crossed! Limits are pushed. I found while I was getting angry I was completely smitten as well.

Loved this blurb and it paints the perfect picture.

"Any man could get her off, but she needed him. Their connection, the chemistry wasn't something easily found."

This is a shorter book and I hate giving anything away, so I will leave this review at that! I really truly loved this book and I was fulfilled in all aspects that I have learned to expect and appreciate when reading a BDSM story. I believed in this relationship and I was cheering them on throughout their journey to each other!

I have to comment quickly on this books cover! IT'S BEAUTIFUL! You understand why the title was named what it was, and the model is exactly how I pictured Christine. This is BDSM in it's sexiest! :)

As I do for many of my reviews, let me leave you with a yummy blurb of a breakfast tied up.... that made me ...er... um.... yup it's definitely hot in here .. WINK!

IT’S THOSE YOU LOVE YOU END UP HURTING THE MOST

This is the continuation from Mischief Impossible, but we have advanced 63 years, and now dealing with the grandson of Thomas and Nancy Wimberly. Christopher Wimberly, Lord Ashworth has been raised by his grandparents and his best friend is Nicolas Wentworth, Lord Townson. Over in America, Melanie Monroe Bronson is a pawn in her evil stepmother’s game, sold to slavery and shipped to England. From the slave auction block, escaping and hiding in a carriage of Lord Ashworth takes this story on an amazing journey of discovery, adventure, beginnings, heartache, rejection, forgiveness and back to new adventures. This is a fascinating series with unique characters, antics, witty dialog and new mysteries that are a lead to the next book, but do not really leave you with a cliffhanger. The plot is well told and keeps the pages turning. I look forward to the next book in this romantic suspenseful series.

I enjoyed this wild ride!

I so enjoyed this book! The plot is fantastic and I found myself drawn into the drama as it continued to unfold. The characters are strong and their backstory grabs your heartstrings. Melanie and Christopher's journey is a wild ride and at times so wonderfully frustrating! I just kept turning page after page to find out what was going to happen next and stayed up way too late trying to find a comfortable stopping spot! I adored the ending and am so looking forward to book two! Nicely done!

her “wicked” stepmother does not love her or her biological children

This is a play off of a Cinderella story. Melanie's father has remarried. They have two children together and Melanie loves them. Unfortunately, her “wicked” stepmother does not love her or her biological children. She sells Melanie into slavery. Melanie is transported to England and sold there. Christopher is at the same whorehouse where Melanie is being sold. She escapes into his carriage and he takes her to safety at his grandmother's house. His grandmother likes Melanie and decides to train her to become a lady. Eventually there is a HEA, but there is a long convoluted road to that ending. I give this 4 stars.

Delightfully entertaining!

What grabbed my attention first was the title. It was unique and interesting. I was hooked right away reading it and dying to know how all four would accomplish their goal in a month in having some sex. My favorite to read about and see how they would grow were Annabel and Jackie.

I liked Terri, but I normally don't read F/F, so it was difficult for me to read those parts. And Karen was equally enjoyable, and towards the middle of the book I was quite surprised. (Not going to spoil what the surprise was:) ) I still enjoyed this book thoroughly. It was full of humor, sadness, and a deep friendship that I love to see.

A thrill ride of an MC romance with some interesting twists

WOW...first time for me to read anything by this author (although she says she uses two different names so who knows if I have read her under the other name)...and it was quite exciting. So much so, that I pretty much read the entire thing in one sitting because it kept my interest and I just HAD to know who Pyro was and how things would turn out with Boone and Olympia/Sally.
Mix up a mystery about a firestarter who is burning down and killing much of a small town's residents, an MC romance with a very bossy biker who is into some hardcore BDSM, some serious father/daughter and father/son drama and you have Scorched Souls in a nutshell. It was at times extremely violent (so much so that one scene almost made me stop reading for a bit), heavy into the kinky Dom/sub scene and full of a murder/mystery plot that spanned over several years.
I really thought it was quite a thrilling read and contained all the elements I like in my biker books with a few unique twists. Grab it while it is only 99 cents for the entire series.

If a book keeps me reading well past my bedtime....

I have definitely been hooked! I am so glad I found this author's work after she put together the booked set. I can only imagine myself bouncing off the walls until the next installment arrived. Which is why I avoid serials as much as possible. I am that "HEA" kind of gal. Olympia (Sally) and Boone's relationship is so muddy and convoluted from the beginning, one tends to think that nothing good is going to become of it or them, but surprise, surprise both leads react with honesty and maturity to situations brought before them. Well, almost all. Even I could see the setup with Twila and Crusher. I am surprised that Crusher's situation wasn't completely resolved, though.

I have to admit I did have a couple of "OMG! give me a break" moments, she just can't catch a break!, but not so influencing that it dropped me from the story.

This book is well worth your time and $$. Will look for this author's work with interest.

Wow! I was gifted a copy of this book for my honest review.
I had a difficult time putting this one down. It is definitely not a sweet story it leans more towards the darker aspect. I love biker romance and even a bit more when it includes the gritty side. This had all of those elements and more. Great Read!
