A Strong BDSM Romance with Food!

Catering To His Needs (Kitchen Confessions Book 1) by Rose C. Carole
I had heard about this novel after it was awarded a publishing contract in a conference contest and since I adore BDSM erotic romance, I couldn’t wait to read it!
Catering To His Needs was well worth the anticipation. It is a truly romantic story, but one that is layered masterfully with the BDSM relationship elements – everything from kinky action to the power exchange between a Dominant and his trusting submissive.
The characters are terrific. Both are mature, and dealing with the pressures and responsibility of family and career. Rebecca is a single mother who has mastered life on her own as a caterer, with her teenage son as her focus in life. Ethan’s own brother has been the cause of much angst for the businessman, and there’s more on the horizon. But he’s a take-charge kind of man, and not just in the boardroom.
Carole gets right to the heart of the story by plunging directly into the moment when Rebecca and Ethan ramp up their D/s relationship. By referencing the couple’s relationship, and starting at the important juncture of their first private time – a weekend with no distractions during which Ethan gets right to work on his delicious submissive, challenging and pushing her to embrace the fullness of their kinky relationship – everything is hot and bothered from the word go.
Carole beautifully renders the emotional and psychological underpinnings of an intense D/s relationship between a powerful, strong man, and a feisty woman, who is more than willing to submit in the bedroom, but has a tough time letting go in other areas of her life. She’s the breadwinner and, after divorcing her loser of a husband, is the sole responsible parent. She is not willing to jeopardize her son’s welfare – not even for her own pleasure and happiness. But Ethan is equally determined that this woman, who touches him in ways both emotional as well as carnal, will not get away. He is willing to help her in any way he can while convincing her that a strong woman can accept his help, just as she accepts his dominance.
Carole layers the sexual, emotional and romantic aspects in this perfect story. She has crafted powerful elements of conflict, both internal and external, for her lovers that leaves you almost weeping with the frustration and bitter disappointment both suffer as they attempt to make their lives work, despite all the obstacles. But you never stop cheering for this pair.
Most importantly, Carole renders the world of safe, sane and consensual BDSM in perfect, kinky detail. This is a novel where you can honestly SEE how people live this lifestyle, and how they legitimately participate in the physical aspects. It is honest and sensual.
The secondary characters, in particular the men who assist Ethan when he’s forced to get his younger brother out of a disastrous situation, and the submissive women who partner with Rebecca in her catering business - who are all looking for their own kinky partners - bode well for future installments of the series, which is a big yay for me.
And the icing on the cake (sorry, couldn’t resist) are the wonderful touches that will appeal to every reader, foodie or just appreciative of sharing a great meal, that Carole includes in the context of Rebecca’s catering business and events, and the meals she shares with Ethan. It is touches like these that make Catering To His Needs really rich, and warm, and real.
Catering To His Needs is a smooth, powerful, romantic and extremely sexy novel of love and lust and kink and how real people can have it all.
Definitely huge thumbs up (both of them!) for Rose C. Carole’s debut novel. Keep ‘em coming!

Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!

1.5 Stars – 3.5 Flames
Oh no!! Please tell me that I’m not the first person to review this read…sigh, dammit. Well, here goes the truth…
In truth, this book was due to my “reviewer boss lady” over a week ago. I tried to pick this book up on 4 different occasions. Each time resulted the same. I just couldn’t do it. I’m ashamed to admit that I had to DNF this book. I NEVER DO THAT!!! I tried to “skim” it, hoping that it would get better and draw me in. Sigh, nope, and that’s a damn shame because after reading the blurb, I was really excited to delve into this one.
Why DNF? Here you go, but be prepared for a spoiler or two:
1. After being divorced for 2 years and raising a teenage boy, Rebecca is a little “too” eager to drive to another town and stay with a “Dom” she’s only played with in a club a few times.
2. Upon arriving at said house, she immediately puts all of her belongings into a box, locks it and submits to EVERYTHING this Dom says. Her friends don’t know where she is. He own son doesn’t know where she is. In fact, the “Dom” is the one who punishes her for NOT telling anyone where she is. ARGH!
3. After a few scenes (and being chained – again first time being at dom’s house), he tries having a “serious” conversation with her regarding her son. As though he’s trying to step in as a step dad to help guide him…before he even meets the son.
I can keep going on but to be honest, I’m not mean. I didn’t care for the way the story was being told (writing style). The POV would frequently change between the two characters without a clear break in between. Someone else may totally fall in love with this read, but unfortunately, it just wasn’t for me.
The only reason I’m giving it 1.5 stars is because the concept of a story is there. The potential for this to be good is too high to not give it at least something to hold on to.

Love Me a Caring Dom!

Submissive Rebecca would love to spend more time getting to know the Dominant man she "scenes" with, but her surly teenage son and her thriving catering business leave her with little time for herself. Ethan wants more as well, and when at last they can spend a weekend together, he wastes no time in showing her how caring a Dom can be. Family problems on both sides, however, conspire against them. Among other obstacles, Ethan's brother is accused of a crime and Rebecca's ex is being an S.O.B. as regards their son.
Author Rose C. Carole handles the Dominant/submissive lifestyle with realism and sensitivity, and the love scenes between them are hot hot hot! I loved that Ethan didn't give up on her. I also loved his firm but loving hand in showing his mastery over her. Rebecca's insecurities and hesitation felt true to life. Her struggle to let go of control and accept the power exchange will have you rooting for this couple to succeed. A wonderful read!
