I'm an avid reader of detective stories. If I have a book in my hand or open on my Kindle, it's more than likely going to be a whodunit. So when I decided to have a bash at writing a novel, it was a murder mystery I started crafting. I loved figuring out clues and red herrings that I hoped would intrigue and baffle the reader. However, when it came to writing about Lucy's reunion with her estranged boyfriend, Noel, I started having trouble. Why had they split up? Had he been unfaithful? Had *she* been unfaithful? Had he taken a job overseas without consulting her? No scenario seemed to suit their personalities. In my head, they'd always had a DD relationship - what if that had caused a misunderstanding? I dismissed this idea - no publisher would want to publish a murder mystery featuring a PI who got turned over her boyfriend's knee when she'd been naughty... Then I discovered there were publishers that actually specialised in books featuring such heroines, and the rest is history. :)
Lucy and Noel also make an appearance in my short-story anthology Are You Sitting Comfortably?, in a mystery story called 'Top Secret'.

Move over Miss Marple

There is another puzzler in the house. Actually, Lucy is like a mixture of a young Miss Marple, Rosemary and Thyme, and several other British who done it characters that I love. Noel is a sports writer and Lucy the PI. She isn't unsafe normally but when she is unsafe enough Noel gives her the slipper. She leaves him because bruises are too much. But she loves the fun spankings and when she needs his help, their love takes over. Read this book. And I can easily see a series. And a following.

a modern "whodunnit" with lots of yummy spankings!

This was my first Bethany Leigh book, and I really enjoyed it!
This was a wonderful combination of Domestic Discipline and Christian DD.
The characters were well written. I adored Lucy. She was a great female character showing the strength and confidence that comes with being a Private Investigator and modern woman. But she also had a softer, submissive side, which I loved.
Noel was sexy, dominant and totally in charge. Sometimes, he got on my nerves for seeming a little overbearing, only to turn around and do something sweet that made me smile.
I really enjoyed unraveling the mystery.
The spankings were awesome.
And I found the Christian aspect to be a great combination with the overall tone of the story.
I really liked this a lot, and can’t wait to read more from Bethany Leigh.

Murder, mystery, intrigue, and love story combined! What more could you want to enjoy this book!!

At Dead of Night by Bethany Leigh is a wonderful story about murder, mystery, and intrigue. Lucy, a private investigator, is hired to find out who murdered Marilyn Carter or if her death was truly an accident. As she is investigating she needs to contact her ex-boyfriend to receive information on a source for her case. Noel, a sportswriter, has not heard from Lucy since she broke off their relationship because of a disciplinary spanking. Lucy misses Noel and wants to work things out, but lets misunderstandings stand in her way. As they reconnect as a couple, Noel is determined to keep Lucy safe while the twists and turns of how Marilyn was killed and who was involved kept the intrigue going as the suspects were narrowed down. Usually I am able to guess "who did it" in a mystery; however, this time I was guessing right up to the end . Overall I recommend this book to others who like a great mystery and love story combined.
